Wim Dehaen is a chemistry researcher and artist based in Prague. His new album “Mundane Synthesis” engages with ideas like data as material, microsound by non-granular synthesis techniques and working without any traditional musical markers like harmony, rhythm and even conventional textures. The tracks are like little objects in a void that exist just on their own internally consistent terms. As the track titles also suggest, they are about engaging with technology or rather that which is hidden behind the technology and makes the technology possible, like liquid crystals, electronic excitation, quantum phenomena, particle models, … and how this drips back into the ironizing and paradoxical mind realm of the human as a consumer-individual.
